Apply a thin layer of E/ Fusing Silicone Putty to the area around the leak, making sure to cover the entire leak. Wrap the self-fusing silicone tape around the pipe, making sure to overlap the edges of the tape as you go. Apply pressure to the tape to activate the self-fusing properties and let it sit for at least 24 hours. To repair a leaking iron pipe: Apply epoxy directly onto the leaking pipe, like you would with caulk or plumber’s putty. The epoxy will temporarily form a seal over the leak. To repair leaking PVC or copper pipes: Affix the pipe clamp or wrap around the leak. The pressure should hold in the water until you can get the pipe replaced. The other type of tape you may have seen is called “self-amalgamating,” “self-fusing,” or “leak repair” tape. It’s used to fix hairline cracks or other non-joint pipe leaks. Tape serves a lot of purposes in the Instructions for a proper pipe repair utilizing Rescue Tape: 1.) Wrap Rescue Tape pipe repair tape around leaking pipe by stretching and overlapping onto itself. Stretch at least double to ensure a good bond; for high pressure leaks stretch to maximum amount. The tighter Rescue Tape is wrapped, the quicker and stronger the bond. 2.) The first step is to shut off the main water supply and drain any remaining liquid from the pipe. Once dry, use a wire brush or sandpaper to clean away any rust or dirt from the area around the leak. When you use this method, you have to use rubber tape together with these hose clamps. First, you have to wrap around rubber tape onto the damaged area of the PVC pipe.
